Getting Started

Where to start

Now that you know what to look for, it can be an overwhelming task to apply it to life.  You don’t need to go to the bathroom and throw everything out. Baby steps can make the switch from chemical based products to natural ones both more manageable and affordable. Here’s an easy 3 phase system to get started on a path to healthier skincare and cosmetics choices:

Phase One: The VIP’s

Choose the top two or three products that you use everyday – think body lotion, and face cream.  These are great places to start because frequent use means that more toxins are entering your body and building up in your system.  You should notice a difference in your skin very soon after ditching the worst offenders.

Phase Two: The Peripherals

Now that you’ve replaced your favourite products, move onto others like colour cosmetics, perfume, nail polish etc.  While you may not use these everyday, there are still harmful chemicals in them that can build up over time.

Phase Three: Green Your Home

Once you use natural skincare and cosmetics, you’ll notice a definite difference when you use products that are full of chemicals. Things like dish washing liquid and clothing detergent can be irritating to skin so changing to more natural versions can be a great way to complete your natural transition.

The jump from “traditional” to natural isn’t as difficult as it seems. Take The Hot List with you when you shop your way through the phases above to make sure you’re picking healthy products.
